This October marks the operational anniversary of one of Cairo’s most vital traffic solutions: the Al-Azhar Tunnel. Since its inauguration and opening in October 2001, it has been a crucial artery for reducing congestion and connecting key districts in the heart of the city.
At ECPC, we proudly reflect on our foundational contribution to this monumental project.
ECPC’s Critical Role: Tunnel Segment Pioneers
The Al-Azhar Tunnel was a testament to the capabilities of Egyptian engineering, and ECPC was right at the forefront.
- Pioneering Production: ECPC was the first and only producer of tunnel segments in Egypt at the time, demonstrating our leadership and innovation in the precast concrete industry.
- Scale of Supply: We supplied the necessary segments for both twin tunnels, covering a total length of 5,250 meters.
- Precision Manufacturing: This undertaking required the production of a massive 28,000 high-quality precast segments, forming 3,500 rings, each with a diameter of 8,500mm.
This project solidified ECPC’s reputation for delivering large-scale, complex infrastructure solutions that stand the test of time and contribute directly to national development. We are honored to have built a legacy that continues to serve millions of commuters daily.
