August 19, 2026
Today, we proudly commemorate a significant milestone in Egypt’s energy journey: 20 years since the commercial operation of the first gas unit at the New Talkha Power Station 750 MW Combined Cycle, which began operation on August 19, 2006.
Two decades later, New Talkha Power Station continues to stand as an important part of Egypt’s power-generation infrastructure and a testament to the value of long-term engineering excellence, reliable infrastructure, and successful project partnerships.
A Milestone in Egypt’s Energy Infrastructure
Located within the Talkha Power Generation Compound on the western bank of the Damietta Branch of the Nile River in Dakahlia, the New Talkha Power Station was developed as a 750 MW combined-cycle power plant.
The plant’s power block consists of two 250 MW combustion turbine generators, with each gas turbine exhausting through its own heat recovery steam generator. The recovered heat is then used to produce steam that drives a 250 MW condensing steam turbine generator, bringing the plant’s net output to 750 MW.
The combined-cycle configuration enables the station to make effective use of the energy contained in the gas-turbine exhaust, supporting efficient and reliable electricity generation.
ECPC’s Contribution: Cooling Infrastructure Built to Last
ECPC is proud to have contributed to this landmark power project through the supply of the critical circulating-water piping infrastructure required for the station’s cooling system.
Our scope included approximately:
- 2,053 meters of Reinforced Concrete Cylinder Pipes (RCCP)
- 2,500 mm diameter pipes
- 434 large-diameter pipes
- 102 special fittings
These components formed an essential part of the plant’s once-through cooling system, supporting the abstraction of non-contact cooling water from the Damietta Branch of the Nile through a buried intake pipeline and the subsequent return of heated cooling water through the discharge pipeline.
Two Decades of Reliability and Partnership
The story of New Talkha Power Station is more than a story of power generation. It is also a story of infrastructure designed to perform reliably over the long term.
For ECPC, this anniversary represents another opportunity to celebrate the lasting value of high-quality prestressed and reinforced concrete solutions in major infrastructure projects.
From large-diameter RCCP to specialized fittings, our contribution to New Talkha reflects ECPC’s commitment to delivering engineered solutions that support the performance and reliability of critical infrastructure.
As we celebrate 20 years of commercial operation, we look back with pride at our contribution to this important project—and forward with confidence to the infrastructure challenges and opportunities ahead.
20 years of energy.
20 years of trust.
20 years of impact.
ECPC — Building infrastructure that stands the test of time.
